Preface
Hello Foodies!
If you landed on this page, then I am sure you love food. May be not as much as I do, but enough to crave something "different" and to take the effort of searching the internet for a "hat-ke" recipe.
I believe your search ends on this blog and you relish these recipes by my MIL as much as I do!
But before we actually dive in, a little intro for those of you who are interested in knowing the backgrounds. I am a Software Engineer, working from home since April 2020 thanks to COVID-19. Our small family consists of my husband, our cute little one year old - Aaryav and my MIL who is the protagonist of this blog. She is a retired banker from a Cooperative Bank in Bhilai AND an excellent cook. You name the dish and she can dissect it to its bare bones ingredients.
I am from Haryana, my in laws are Malayalis, born and brought up in Bhilai, Chattisgarh. As you can imagine, the varied geographies make our plates colorful and the meal conversations, well, interesting!
My MIL's recipes carry a unique combination of northern and southern flavors of India. The fact that she doesnt use coconut oil in many of her Kerela dishes vouches for the fusion fragrance that comes out of our kitchen. Some recipes were invented by her in an effort to wrap things quickly in kitchen before rushing to her bank job, also making sure that kids get all essential nutrients from the meals. Her weekends were spent in making yummazing delicacies, most of which could be preserved for 2-3 days. (Again, Necessity- the mother of inventions. Quite literally in her case!)
I always admired her culinary skills and devoured the dishes prepared by her at home. But well, (confession time!!!) Me or my husband never bothered to learn any of them until recently. While brings us to the reasons of writing this blog. 1) Lockdown made us realize that eating out is no longer an option every time we crave something nice to eat. 2) We really want Aaryav to appreciate our cooking as much as he appreciates his grandma's. So, we decided to learn from the expert herself. Hence this blog, as a documented copy of our adventures with her dishes!
We will do our part of updating this blog regularly with her recipes and you can do your part by trying them out and letting us know in the comments section how the dish turned out!
Bon Appetit!
